Prevailers’ Sanctuary

First Baptist Church, Ikeja, a member of Nigerian Baptist Convention founded in 1902, as a preaching station of First Baptist Church Lagos under the then stewardship of Rev. Moses Ladejo Stone.

The church which started at Ipodo moved to its present location at number 1, Church Street, Off Olowu Street, Ikeja, Lagos on November 6, 1977, before the completion of the church sanctuary along with the children’s church and the pastorium. The dedication of the church was done on January 12, 1985, in a service presided by Rev. Dr. S. T Ola Akande, the then General Secretary of Nigerian Baptist Convention.

The third oldest Baptist Church in Lagos, the early converts and foundation members, ten of them in number have become so rooted, developed and grown into various organizations, departments, committees, societies, and associations. Also, the six major focus and purposes of the church include – Worship, Evangelism, Discipleship, Prayer, Fellowship and Social Ministry.

The church vision of ‘’partnering with the Holy Spirit for the transformation of nations’’ is geared towards building a continual process of life enhancement and sustaining the atmosphere of God’s love and power to facilitate the development of people’s calling in Christ Jesus.

Today, First Baptist Church, Ikeja, is still marching on and the gate of hell will not prevail against her, as it is now the turn of this generation to write another history for the LORD through the building of a new church sanctuary to replace the existing one at the same premises.
